FYI: The United
States has some of the most
repressive and
backward
immigration laws in the "free" world. Under current immigration law, lesbian/gay people are treated as if they are afflicted with a dangerous mental illness and are excludable from the United States on that
basis. According to
a law passed in 1987, immigration officials may also deny entry to persons with HIV, the virus associated with AIDS. Openly gay congressional Representative Barney Frank (DMA) is spearheading a movement to reform the laws.

FYI: This year, in a 6-1 decision, the Ohio Supreme Court ruled in favor of M. Lee Balser, a gay man from Columbus attempting to adopt a child, Charlie B. In doing so, the Court reversed a district court decision which forbade the adoption on the grounds that homosexuality is incompatible with child rearing. The states highest
court called Balser "the one consistent and caring person in the the life of Charles B." who has lived most of his eight years in foster homes and care institutions.
